She wakes, the end of the week
So tired from all she’s been through
Drained physically, outlook bleak
An emotional wreck, same old tune
Pressures from work for a low wage
Bosses penny pinch, whips on slaves
Hard to talk to people and engage
No time for friendship, have to behave
Family too drains her dry
Taking from her time and money
Wishing away she could fly
This is never an option funny
Pressures from friends with truth and lies
She wonders where she stands
The frustrations come, eyes water, cries
In another country she wishes to land
She tries to think of those worse off
Those that have no homes or food
Human suffering, we all have the same blood
But her life in these thoughts does intrude
So how does she get out of this trap
That she finds herself in
What life can she map
What happiness can she find to bring?

I'm a thinker, listener, a "question's pretty much everything" type of person. A seeker of knowledge, always restless, yet seeks the calm in life.
I love writing in all forms and am in the process of completing a number of ongoing projects. I love the craft of writing and the possibilities it holds. A magic carpet through the mind. I love pretty much all creative arts, music, film and theatre the leading ones.
Born in Hertfordshire in England, my family Irish, Welsh and English, I currently reside in Edinburgh, in Scotland. I'm drawn to coastal and mountain regions where I like to go to think and draw inspiration from. Ireland is a place that's dear to me, and I try to get back to see family and friends as much as possible.
My interests are wide and broad, too many to mention here, but history, archaeology, criminology, music and film are just some of those things I love.
I hope you enjoy my ramblings on here as that's what they are really. I'll let my fingers do the ''talking...''

Darren,may i ask,what inspires you?
I’m inspired by by the people around me and the people who aren’t. I usually people watch/listen and never put my opinion forward when others talk to me about their problems whether friends or strangers. Facebook and Twitter I watch too for what people are thinking. It’s a good source material. Some of what I write is personal to me, some made up, but pretty much all what I write about is fact or based in fact.
I’ve just started to actually read poetry late in life. I was never interested in it a school so much, but loved writing and have just bought the collected poems of W.B. Yeats just to see how a master wordsmith wrote.
If I’m in Scotland, especially the Highlands and islands or in Ireland, especially the South and South West coast, then I’m in my element about what I see and feel.
To me inspiration comes from actually listening to people, not pretending to do so, and seeing things a little differently maybe than others do. The way people take a beautiful coastal town for granted for instance, not seeing its beauty when they’re surrounded by it.
As for the dark side that I write about, well, we’re surrounding by it and it’s easy to put into words.
I even look in newspapers for things to write about. There’s a wealth of material for you! Or just my day and what I saw in it.
I try to write 3 poems a day if possible just to keep the pace up, whether good or bad writing, it’s the practice of doing it.
Wow, just wrote an essay here! Hope you’re still awake! 😉
