The Future In Their Hands

There he is again wandering around
Wondering what next for him in this town
Does he stay here and make the best of it?
Or should he spread his wings, somewhere else to fit?

This young woman, a job to do today
Same thing as always, no time to play
Pressure and bills is all she has in life
No happiness or future she has to strive

A young man of twenty walks along the beach
Jobs are few and far between, he’s classed as a leach
He’s on the dole, looking for work is hard
Life for him isn’t easy, dealt with bad cards

Another man just turned sixty is finding it a struggle
On life’s dump-heap he has been thrown, age critical
For too old he seems to be for most jobs now he’s told
Even though he’s fit and healthy, mind sharp as ever, controlled

Students with degrees struggle everyday
People of a certain age on a minimum pay
Most of us are stuck, sinking in quicksand
But like these people, the future in their hands

For reinvention of yourself is a way out
Change the way you go about life, another voice to shout
Options may seem hard, students fees now tripled
But if you know where to look, your mind can be channelled

Never give up on your dreams or a different path
For the future is yours to take, so have the last laugh
Life is short enough with terrible things going on
So take a risk once in a while, sing that happy song
