Rundown Area

Rundown Area taken by the author Darren Greenidge

Car alarms go off
once again
Along with shops
every day
As below kids
scream and shout
and drugs waft up
from below

Trouble brews
all the time
But little is
sadly done
As society
crumbles all around
Falling like
the Berlin Wall

A new block
rundown fast
By many who
care little
Waifs and strays
layabouts
Some looking
for escape

Little Iraq
it’s been called
And so it
will remain
Whilst others
try to break free
From the battleground
and prison keep
