Outside My Window

From 5am ’till ten at night
Sounds so loud, birds take flight
Builders and dustmen, deliveries too
Outside my window night sky to blue

A grey town and empty shops
Patrolled by rent-a-cops
Barely a bustle anymore
This town dead long before

Pubs closing and restaurants too
Betting shops grow, much to lose
Charity shops hike prices up
It’s no wonder people have had enough

This town not like it was at all
Not like what I recall
Lost its buzz years ago
But the population continues to grow

I wonder what the future will bring
If at all anything
For too little too late it will be
Always the case it seems to me
