Ashes

Burning embers he can smell
The fiery inferno straight from hell
Seeing all go up in smoke
Ashes left, empty and broke

His thinks on those ashes
Like his long-held wishes
Burnt away by ravaged time
To him this a double crime

He feels his heart heavy inside
God, he has nowhere now to hide
All destroyed by forces unknown
Railed against him, always alone

A good person he tried to be
Tried to help all he meets
But fate kicked him when he’s down
Now he’s nothing left in this town

Ashes, all ashes, washed away
By the rain only today
Mingles with his inner tears
All he has left is his fear
