Love Doesn’t Pay The Rent

Love is all very well and good
She’s been told
But does it do what it should
Once it has its hold

Love doesn’t pay the rent
It doesn’t get you that job
It may seem like heaven sent
But of something in you it robs

She just wants some happiness
But her father says she’s foolish
Maybe a baby, what then? A life in a mess?
A career she may even miss

But she ignores him in all he says
Going with her heart
She sees bright sunny days
And that new start

But two years down the line
Her fathers words come a-knocking
Single and with a child crying
His words to her seem mocking

Her career took a back seat
When the child came
She struggles to afford a treat
Only herself to blame

But she wouldn’t change a thing
She just has a new outlook
A new path and wonders to bring
Even if her world was shook
