The Sociable Loner

He’s out once again
In pubs with his friends
Hours pass from day to night
Relaxed he is, a happy sight

He plays the games
His humour of fame
And a drinker of legend
No anger does he vent

But look close if you will
Look deeper still
For he wears a mask perfect
Eyes tell a story if met

No-one sees him true
No-one cares enough to
As he skilfully avoids all
By letting others themselves talk

Deep down he’s lost
Complex roads he does cross
So many paths he walks alone
This his destiny cast by stone

He’s taken for granted too
But doesn’t seem to mind by who
Hated by few, loved by many
He’d give away his last penny

But his thoughts are deep
Sometimes low they steep
As he sees all before him
Others in ignorant bliss again

So the sociable loner goes his way
From his friends does he fade
Family too care little to see
This ghost of a man who shall always be

  1. “Deep down he’s lost/Complex roads he does cross ..” so deep his pain some day to surface – how real this is, well expressed.
