Michael listens to all that’s said to him that day
Listening to the world and its fate
He wonders why it has to be this way
Where has all the goodness gone, why is there hate?
His family try to tell him all that goes on
But the complexities of life confuse
He tries to listen and understand what went wrong
Why the good people mostly lose?
Out with his friends he asks them questions
But they don’t understand what he says
For they’re in their own little worlds, no notion
Of what’s happening either, they focus on their day
Michael doesn’t understand why people have to die
He’s sad at this, wondering where they go
Looking at the TV screens, he sits and cries
Not taking notice of the next show
Animals too make him sad as they hurt no-one
Remembering when his dog, Jessie died he cried for weeks
Wondering why he had to be, life without her not fun
This was when he questioned everything, answers now he seeks
For the world according to Michael is now different
Seen until recently with a child’s eyes
Now obliterated in an instant
For Michael, now eight, has lost his innocent way
