Kilkenny, the marble city, rich in history made
Built by Norman nobles that fell to Cromwell’s blade
Older though Kilkenny is, going back so many years
Kilkenny, the Black Cats, and monks who made their own beer
Sitting on the banks of the river Nore
The lifeblood of this city was once at its core
Founded in the sixth century with a church
Cill Chainnigh, ‘the church of Canice’ did assert
Famous for a brewery and the greatest hurling team
A beautiful people with smiles that do beam
DJ Carey, their famous son, a hurling legend
So many others, too numerous to mention
Infamous pubs snake through the city
The summer time, these are all so busy
Kyteler’s Inn a pub so old and full of life
Famous for a witch who escaped the burning fires
So much Kilkenny has, so much it’s been through
This wonderful, amazing place that I miss too
Arts and crafts this city has in abundance
So much talent in this city of wonder
Close ties do I have with Kilkenny
This medieval city I love so dearly
A special place it has in my heart
Long may it prosper, this place of beauty and art
