War, war and yet
more war
With no peace in
sight
Blood spilled over
religious difference
Ruled by ignorance
and fear
Atrocities committed
beyond imagination
War crimes of a
horrendously evil nature
Human rights do not
exist there
A world alien to
us all
Thousands of miles
away
We watch and read
the news
Shocked by what
we see
Horrified by what
humanity is capable of
We side with one, angry
at the other
Wanting to send in
troops
Screaming to go
to war
Protesting on the
streets
We think that we
understand
All that goes
on
But how could
we?
When we only have
half the story
We just jump on the
bandwagon
Led by the bandleaders,
the press
And all those that
relay the news
In their one-sided
way
But back in desert
lands
Despair and bigotry
rule
A scythe of destruction
cuts a swathe
Through both sides
that have good hearts
We can never truly
understand
Because we’re not
there
We sit in comfort and
safety
Disconnected, able
to switch off
