Awake before the cock crows
As red’s and orange’s split the sky
In an image as if done by hand
A Picasso spreads the canvas wide
The heat rises in the day
Taking the breath from you
The struggle to concentrate high
As the sun beats you with its rays
Little kids stay under shelter
Too dangerous it is for them
But some run wild without hats
No cream to protect angelic faces
Whilst the old are sapped of energy
Leathery skin tightens more
Wrinkled faces frazzle in golden light
Sleepless nights they await
Tempers frayed with others
As the heat gets too much
They try not to complain
But the heat will have its day
Night draws in, in stealth
The sun gone to sleep
Yet it leaves it’s warmth behind
To leave us sleepless once again
