Manners are a funny thing
They don’t cost nowt
Not a bean
Yet people find it hard
To say a kind word
Which they will not part
Please, Thank-you
Pardon me, a kind gesture
Isn’t hard to do
Yet people choose to be rude
Choose to be unkind
Part of basic humanity they lose
It saddens me so
Why they can’t smile or nod
Shake a hand or open a door as they come or go
Manners don’t cost a thing
Politeness is a way of life
Happy faces it brings
A smile for the day
Keeps you going
Makes it all worth it I say
So go say hell, goodbye
Welcome or share something
Time too short it flies
