Matters of the Heart

The sun shines high on a cold afternoon
As people rush by with cheeks that bloom
The streets bustling with tourists and locals
Musicians play to all who listen to their call

A man walks by, just turned forty has he
Thinking of life and where he’s meant to be
Must of his friends are married with kids
Others in relationships, rarely on the skids

But when it comes to matters of the heart
He hasn’t a clue where to start
He’s tried it a few times but never for long
It never goes right, mostly feels wrong

Is he lonely though, well that’s a question
For he’s learned a lot in life, so many lessons
The one question that plays on his mind
Is he meant to be alone with no-one to find?

Should he be bothered by this if so
Or should he carry on as he means to go?
Taking each day as it comes along
For him the future is still an unwritten song

But fate and destiny he does believe
Deep down he hopes his heart to be stolen by a thief
But deeper still he knows he’s for something more
He’s not like others, not as insecure

So he continues on his journey with eyes that see
At least alone he is always free
But one day soon he’ll be old
Maybe then he’ll be forgotten and left in the cold…
