She sees him across the crowded room
Her heart beats to the background tune
A drink or two has she had by now
That’s why her mind is foggy with clouds
She wants to talk to him and hold him close
But in a state she is with the drink she chose
To feel his warmth and caring arms she needs
To know that it go somewhere, she hopes it’ll lead
She sits down with him, moving his arm around her
Her head against his chest, obvious to him what this infers
Suddenly though she’s back from her dream
Pulling away, nothings what it seems
For her boyfriend comes to her with a smile
Not noticing the intimacy just shared in drunken style
He takes her away across the room to party
Whilst the man she left sitting alone is broken-hearted
He always gets in this situation with girls
Two he knows of, get drunk and open themselves
When they sober up they forget what happened
Leaving him in the aftermath and emotionally battered
She walks away at the end of the night
Hugging her friend ever so tight
Confusion again is in her eyes
With the wrong one she knows and inwardly sighs
But with him she’ll stay for reason she knows not
As her friend she loves must be forgot
She sees the sadness in his soul
She feels it too, she’s not whole
