Take A Closer Look

The breeze blows the can gently across the ground
People walk past ignoring the waste, human rubbish a bore
All that matters is where the next pound comes from
To spend it on waste, to get their next score

A man sits in a pub alone and confused
His life a mess, all lost in the blink of an eye
Good times a memory, a heart forever bruised
Is there a way out, does he wanna try?

A girl rides her bike on her way to a working day
Thinking of her day ahead, worried she is
That her boss may sack her and lose her pay
For having the courage to have her say, will she be missed?

A singer in the street sings someone else’s songs
Strumming his guitar, one eye on the money hat
Busking for ten years strong now, A dream long gone
The day almost over, A lonely walk back to his flat

But who thinks of the men who fight for their families
The women who lose more than fight
The children who lose more than most as they act calmly
For us we don’t have a right

Because it’s outta sight and outta mind
An ocean away, not ours to argue
Just a page in a paper, a channel switched over
Take a closer look, it’s getting closer

Take a closer look, it is closer….
