Looking

What is it she’s looking for?
Why does the search always hurt?
What is it she wants more?
What does she need in her life to insert?

What does he need in his life?
As he walks around lost in a daze
Feels like his heart cut out with a knife
What is he looking for today?

She finds her life hard
A slog it seems all the time
Life dealt her bad cards
She struggles her ladder to climb

He has lost all hope in this dingy joint
As he goes about his day
Wondering what’s now the point
Has he his life betrayed?

Both have given up looking now
The search harder everyday it seems
So like others they exist in their drab grey towns
Barely hearing the whispers of their dreams

Like zombies they now are
Their brains dead as they ‘fit in’
Conformed like cattle herd on a farm
Dreams now destroyed, they stopped looking
