Freedom in a Different Town

I woke to a day of sad reflection
Thinking of someone as I walk to the station
Maybe you can make me forget my thoughts
But in company you are and drinks were bought

I sat with you with your friends around
I was quiet even though they were sound
All I wanted was to talk to someone, maybe you
Or for you just to listen for once to my tune

A friend of yours she made me smile
While one reminded me of a reptile
The one that put a smile on my face
Has inner beauty in abundance and grace

Talk to you I hardly did that day
Too many people with too much to say
Then you went off elsewhere
Alone with my glass I sit and stare

I now find myself alone in a scummy bar
from so called friends, close yet so afar
This though is the way it has to be
For I walk alone in this purgatory

So I sit, write these thoughts down
Thinking of freedom in a different town
Away from problems, chaos and extremes
But deep down nothing is as it seems

For I’ll find it anywhere, I attract like a magnet
No true escape from this wherever the sunset
I listen to the voices babble all around me
Lost in a blur of mindless cacophony
