Darkness and Light

All I see is darkness and light
Between what is wrong and what is right
The everlasting fight between evil and good
Darkness nowadays wears a hood

The cowards who bully, attack our ways
Don’t know any difference in all their days
Education isn’t the strength of these thugs
They care here nor there, they just shrug

They need to be taught a lesson or two
By the likes of the enlightened, me and you
Show them that there is a better way
or pay for the crimes they commit everyday

Bring back hanging some say aloud
Others stay silent in a faceless crowd
That will just make us worse than the guilty
Those that are leaderless with no fealty

Yes indeed they need to pay for their crime
But they need to do some very hard time
To learn the difference between right and wrong
To never sing from the same old song

A complete change in the law is what we need
learn from what’s been done and take heed
Show them all that there is more to life
What they will miss out on with trouble and strife

Education is the tool we should use to fight
So these idiots can learn what is right
For those though that refuse to learn
Bring back National Service, their souls to burn

Only then may they know discipline and honour
When faced with a future where they may be a gonna
For staring down a gun in war torn Afghanistan
May be the only way to educate these fools if we can

  1. Although, politically, I’m not as hardline as in this poem, it’s a great poem nonetheless, well thought out and expressed. It is true education will be the key. Though these elements of that generation I fear are irrecoverably lost for now, we do need to concentrate on the next. Good write!
